You’re ready to get unstuck.

I’m ready to walk alongside you.

MEET EMMA LARSON, LCSW | LGBTQ THERAPIST

IN-PERSON IN BROOKLYN, NYC & ONLINE ACROSS NY STATE

Sorting through the noise of others’ expectations can make it hard to hear your own voice, or know your own worth. When you’ve been bombarded all your life with messaging around who you should be, who you should love, and how your life should look …

… it’s easy to bury your own desires

… it’s easy to start believing that you’ll never be good enough

… it’s easy to lose your focus, and lose your way

As your therapist, it’s my job to create an accepting space where you can be seen and known in all your complexity, and where you can tune into what is true for you.

Therapy with me is like sitting side-by-side completing a puzzle, seeing how the pieces fit.  We’ll work together to assemble a fuller picture of where you’ve been, where you are now, and where you want to go.

And then we’ll plot the course to get there.

I get it.

I have my own lived experience of queerness and “alternative” relationships.

And while it is surely different from yours (I always want to honor that), it also gives me a baseline from which to understand important aspects of your world.

You don’t need to explain to me why your partner has another partner, or why coming out hasn’t been a one-and-done linear process.

You don’t need to catch me up on what “nonbinary” means (although if you want to explore the unique nuance of what it means to you, let’s dive in).

You don’t need to justify or rationalize your presentation, your household, or your fluidity.

There are infinite ways to love people, make a family, create community, be human.

None of that is new to me.

Your whole self is welcome here.

My approach is grounded in the belief that we are all driven by our innate need for connection, and that most growth, development, and healing occurs in and through our relationships.

That includes your relationship with your therapist.

And because research shows that the relationship between therapist and client is the greatest predictor of positive outcomes: I will prioritize earning your trust and fostering an environment where you can feel at ease.

I see my role not as an objective observer, but as a co-participant in a shared process.

In plain language: I am a human being who is in this thing with you. And I’ve got your back.
